New Delhi: The government on Friday said there was no need to rush into the immediate change in the interval between two doses of the Kovishield vaccine and that the extension of time would require an appropriate scientific study from the Indian perspective.
Referring to reports of some studies advocating for a slight narrowing of the gap between the two doses of Covishield, Dr VK Paul, Member (Health), NITI Aayog said that such concerns require a balanced approach.
Addressing a press conference on Kovid-19, Paul said, “There is no rush to talk about the need to change the interval between doses immediately. Such decisions should be taken very carefully. We must remember that when we extended the interval, we had to consider the risk of the virus to those who took only one dose. But his answer was that many more people would get the first dose and thus the immunity of more people would be increased to a certain extent.
He said that the group providing technical advice on vaccination also includes people who have been on the World Health Organization and other committees and who have a reputation at the global level. “So please respect their decisions.”
